HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Partner Community Capital (PCAP), a mission-driven community development financial institution (CDFI) headquartered in West Virginia, and serving communities throughout Central Appalachia, has been recognized with the 2026 West Virginia Brownfield Redevelopment Partner Award.

The award, given by the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center, highlights PCAP’s strong commitment to brownfield redevelopment and its close work with the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Centers to help facilitate redevelopment projects across the state, specifically PCAP’s partnership with the Northern WV Brownfields Assistance Center on the Downtown Appalachia: Revitalizing Recreational Economies (DARRE) program.

PCAP was presented with the award during the 2026 West Virginia Brownfields & Main Street Conference on September 10th in Huntington. The annual awards recognize leaders and organizations contributing to redevelopment and revitalization efforts throughout West Virginia.

“Brownfield redevelopment can change the economic trajectory of a place, enabling communities to leverage existing assets to create a more vibrant future,” said Marten Jenkins, President and CEO of PCAP. “We’re honored to receive this recognition and grateful for our partnership with the Brownfields Assistance Centers.”

PCAP provides predevelopment support and financing that can help address the unique challenges associated with redevelopment projects, particularly in rural and underserved communities. PCAP’s early support for project planning and evaluation activities such as financial projections, architectural renderings, engineering plans, and environmental assessments help building and business owners access financing to complete their redevelopment projects, thus creating jobs and stimulating the local economy. These investments are particularly important in communities where few other resources are available and where strong real estate infrastructure can help boost local spending and support surrounding businesses.

One example of this impact is the Historic Lowe Hotel. Built in 1904, the 62,000-square-foot hotel in Point Pleasant is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as an important anchor for the community’s tourism economy. When the owners sought to sell the property rather than allow it to become vacant, PCAP helped secure an analysis that provided the building’s first as-built floor plans. PCAP’s business support services helped position the property for redevelopment.

A local developer has since purchased the Lowe, which is undergoing environmental remediation and plans for restoration as a modern boutique hotel with more than 50 rooms and suites. The project will preserve a significant downtown asset while supporting tourism and surrounding businesses.

The 2026 West Virginia Brownfield Awards were presented by the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Centers during the conference, which brought together professionals and community leaders focused on brownfield redevelopment, economic development, and Main Street revitalization across the state.

The Redevelopment Partner Award adds to PCAP’s ongoing work supporting community and economic development throughout West Virginia and Appalachia.
