Western North Carolina’s Hurricane Recovery: Building Resilience in the Face of Challenges

Summary

We’re proud to say that our clients have also worked hard to stand by their communities. Following the devastation that Hurricane Helene caused in Asheville, Mother Earth Food, a client of Partner Community Capital, quickly adapted its home delivery operation within 24 hours

Following the devastation that Hurricane Helene caused in Asheville, Mother Earth Food, a client of Partner Community Capital, quickly adapted its home delivery operation within 24 hours. With assistance from the Smith Mill Works complex, Dr. Bronners and Grassroots Aid Partnership, Mother Earth was able to maintain cold storage and continue receiving fresh produce and essentials from local farmers and food partners.

“With support from chefs, food trucks, and volunteers, we also established a commissary kitchen to provide hot meals to those in need,” said Andrea DuVall, Founder & CEO.

During the second week of October, more than a thousand meals were delivered daily in collaboration with Equal Plates Project, Manna Food Bank, ABCCM, and other volunteers. Mother Earth plans to return to its home delivery model in the coming weeks, remaining committed to providing nutrient-dense food to the community.

“As a dedicated partner in the local food system, we continue to emphasize the importance of a resilient local food network. We will continue to prioritize local, organic food to support the community’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. And we remain committed to keeping dollars local and working collaboratively to rebuild the local food system,” DuVall said.
