Partner Community Capital’s WV REI Program Helps Glen Ferris Inn Boost Local Economy

Summary

With WV REI funding more than 80% of the total project cost, Glen Ferris Inn launched a brand-new website with a full suite of digital tools, including online booking, high-quality photography, videography, and search engine optimization (SEO). This design overhaul has significantly enhanced the Inn's online presence, making it easier for guests to explore, book, and share their experiences.

Fayette County’s historic Glen Ferris Inn has been a local treasure for decades, drawing visitors with its picturesque riverside location. Thanks to Partner Community Capital’s West Virginia Recreation Economies Initiative (WV REI), this attraction recently received a major digital upgrade that’s boosting its visibility and accessibility to travelers across the region.

With WV REI funding more than 80% of the total project cost, Glen Ferris Inn launched a brand-new website with a full suite of digital tools, including online booking, high-quality photography, videography, and search engine optimization (SEO). This design overhaul has significantly enhanced the Inn’s online presence, making it easier for guests to explore, book, and share their experiences.

“The Glen Ferris Inn is an iconic part of Fayette County’s history and identity,” said Kristen Beverage, WV REI Program Manager. “Through this project, we’re proud to support not just the Inn, but also the local community that relies on it for jobs and economic stability. Seeing bookings increase and knowing that these funds helped preserve such a unique piece of West Virginia’s heritage makes this project especially meaningful.”

The impact of these changes has been immediate and substantial. Bookings have increased due to the ease and accessibility of online reservations paired with SEO efforts that make the Inn more visible to a broader audience. The new website’s professional photography and videography also bring Glen Ferris Inn’s story to life, inviting travelers to immerse themselves in its rich history before they even arrive.

“Online booking capabilities and effective SEO are powerful tools for businesses in rural areas,” adds Beverage. “By helping Glen Ferris Inn reach more travelers, we’re driving sustainable tourism in Fayette County. This isn’t just about supporting one business; it’s about fostering economic growth throughout the region.”

The Glen Ferris Inn’s owner, Pete Lopez, has seen firsthand the benefits of the Inn’s digital transformation.

“The support from WV REI has been a game-changer for us,” Lopez said. “We’ve always had great service and a unique location, but now our website showcases that to a much wider audience. The new booking system is incredibly user-friendly, and guests love being able to reserve rooms with just a few clicks.”

Beyond drawing in more guests, this project contributes to the local economy in Fayette County—a distressed area—by supporting the employment of 22 individuals who make the Inn a unique destination.

“Keeping our staff employed year-round is a top priority,” Lopez said. “This boost in bookings helps us do that and keep our focus on delivering memorable experiences for every visitor.”

By modernizing Glen Ferris Inn’s online presence, WV REI has helped ensure that this historic landmark remains both competitive and sustainable, supporting local jobs and creating a destination that visitors from near and far can continue to enjoy for years to come.
